Social enterprise Thriftopia.com Ltd. is putting a call out to Canada’s corporate community for sponsors to support the fledgling e-waste collector in its ongoing mission to improve tomorrow by keeping resources working. The company employs persons with barriers to employment such as Multiple Sclerosis, Bipolar Mood Disorder, and Clinical Depression to collect computers for reuse and recycling.

“Although we’re not a charity, we support our social goals through the revenues we earn” said Patrick Hebert, Thriftopia’s director. The company accepts most electronic items free of charge and bills only to accept monitors and televisions due to high disposal costs. Fee based services include scheduled pickup and certified physical data destruction.

Patrick continued “…we’re looking for partners in the business community to help us reach out and make it easier for the public to access responsible technology recycling services. We need green, socially conscious companies to host us as we travel through York Region and Simcoe County, media sponsors to help spread the word, transportation partners, and financial sponsors to offset the cost of fuel and incidentals”

Through a recent collection event held on Earth Day (April 22nd), the company was able to divert over 5 tons of e-waste from local landfills and put several computers back into service. Key to the success of the program was the Alliston Sears outlet store which acted as a host for the event and participation from the Alliston and District Chamber of Commerce.

“We had great publicity, a great reception from the public and our services are continuing to be demanded by more organizations in the region,” said Hebert about the event “I’d like to share this positive image with other like-minded organizations.”

Interested parties are asked to contact Patrick Hebert by telephone (705) 828-7162 or email sponsors@thriftopia.com
